A legacy of leadership. A future of promise.
The Distinguished Alumni Scholarship Program (DASP) was created in 1989 to recognize and support the next generation of outstanding physicians. Each year, several incoming students are awarded full-tuition scholarships for all four years of medical school.
What makes the DASP special is that it’s made possible by alumni, for future alumni. The program is funded through a combination of institutional support and annual gifts to the Medical Teaching Fund, many of which come directly from alumni.
The alumni council plays a central role. Each year, the council selects distinguished alumni to be honored as the namesakes of that year’s scholarships. Each student’s scholarship is named after one of these exceptional alumni, all of whom have made a lasting impact through their service as WashU Medicine faculty.
Student recipients are chosen by a faculty committee based on their academic excellence and strong character. If they meet eligibility criteria, these students receive full support through graduation, thanks to the vision and generosity of donors.
Nominate distinguished faculty
The alumni community is invited to nominate outstanding alumni from WashU Medicine faculty or emeritus faculty to be considered as honorees for 2027. Nominations will be accepted until Feb. 15, 2027. Those received after Feb. 15 will be considered for 2028.
