San Francisco WashU Medicine Alumni Reception and AI in Health Care Discussion
Join Bay-area alumni and those attending the AMIA conference for a special reception and discussion with colleagues from WashU Medicine’s Institute for Informatics, Data Science & Biostatistics (I2DB) around the challenges and opportunities in AI and human systems,
Institute Director, Dr. Philip Payne, will lead the discussion, panelists in a discussion around AI from their vantage point as early adopters of tools and techniques like machine learning and large language models in biomedical informatics, exploring hype versus reality around generative artificial intelligence, the responsible use and equitable implementation of AI tools, and the critical role humans still play in interacting with these technologies.

Dr. Thomas Kannampallil, associate professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and the I2DB at WashU Medicine
Dr. Genevieve Melton-Meaux, BS ’95, professor of surgery, senior associate dean of Health Informatics and Data Science, director for the Center for Learning Health System Sciences, and core faculty in the Institute for Health Informatics at the University of Minnesota.
