 ople/robert-brophy-md/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Brophy</a> is th
 e Jerome J. Gilden\, M.D. Distinguished Professor of Orthopedic Surgery</sp
 an><span data-contrast="auto">\, chief of the Sports Medicine Service\, and
  director of the Orthopedic Clinical Research Center at the WashU Medicine 
 and chief medical officer and orthopedic surgeon for St. Louis City SC (Maj
 or League Soccer). </span></p><p><span data-contrast="auto">As a board cert
 ified orthopedic surgeon with subspecialty certification in sports medicine
 \, his clinical practice focuses on the treatment of shoulder and knee inju
 ries in patients from all sports and walks of life. Dr. Brophy has been nam
 ed to the St. Louis Best Doctors since 2009 and a Castle Connolly Top Docto
 r since 2019. He serves as a team physician for the St. Louis Blues\, was a
  team physician for the St. Louis Rams\, and is Chair of the NFL's Musculos
 keletal Research Committee.</span></p><p><span data-contrast="auto">He purs
 ues research as a means of improving patient care and outcomes\, having aut
 hored or co-authored over 380 peer reviewed articles to date with an H-inde
 x of 74. He has received a number of research related distinctions\, includ
 ing the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine Cabaud Award (twice
 ) and NCAA Award\, The American Journal of Sports Medicine Systematic Revie
 w Award and Podcast Award\, the Orthopedic Research and Education Foundatio
 n’s Career Development Award for his research related to ACL tears\, the NF
 L Physicians Society Arthur C. Rettig Award\, and the Washington University
  Department of Orthopedic Surgery Lee T. Ford Award. </span></p><p><span da
 ta-contrast="auto">He served as deputy editor of sports medicine for the Jo
 urnal of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons\, director of the spor
 ts medicine Fellowship at WashU from 2018-22\, on the Board of Directors of
  the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) from 2016-18.</span></p
 ><p><span data-contrast="auto">He graduated from Stanford University\, wher
 e he played on the men’s soccer team\, with degrees in electrical engineeri
 ng\, industrial engineering and economics. After earning his medical degree
  from the Washington University School of Medicine in 2001\, he completed a
  residency in orthopedic surgery and a fellowship in sports medicine and sh
 oulder surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York\, NY. </span
 ></p><p><span data-contrast="auto">His clinical interests focus on the knee
  and shoulder\, particularly knee ligament surgery\, including ACL and PCL 
 reconstruction\, meniscus surgery\, including repairs and transplantation\,
  and cartilage repair surgery such as microfracture\, OAT\, MACI and osteoc
 hondral allograft as well as shoulder stabilization\, labral repair and rot
 ator cuff repair. A former collegiate and professional soccer player\, he h
 as a special interest in the treatment and prevention of injuries in soccer
  athletes.</span></p>
